Au, Wi, Sp Qtrs. 3 or more hrs rehearsal each wk. Prereq: Admission by audition and permission of director. Repeatable to a maximum of 12 cr hrs. Membership in this concert group is open to all women students in the University by audition. VPA Admis Cond course.

About the Women's Glee Club

Founded in 1903, the Women's Glee Club has a long history at The Ohio State University. Open annually by audition to all women on campuss, both graduate and undergraduate, it attracts many non-majors whose strong high school backgrounds have contributed to their enjoyment of choral music. In addition, there are music majors who participate both in Glee Club and in a mixed ensemble because of their love for treble music. The group sings several concerts on campus each year, including one shared with the Men's Glee Club; participates with all OSU choral ensembles in the annual Musical Celebration and Choral Collage Concerts; and often performs in the community for university and civil functions. In 1996, the Women's Glee Club was invited to perform at the Ohio Music Education Association's annual conference. In addition, WCG frequently sings for and with high school women's choruses throughout Ohio. In January 1998 they hosted their first High School Women's Chorus Day at OSU. The Women's Glee Club has also performed with other university women's choruses in the midwest, including the Miami of Ohio University Choraliers, the Bowling Green State University and the University of Michigan Women's Glee Clubs.

The Women's Glee Club sings a variety of repertoire, traditional and contemporary, and performs in several different languages. With the recent addition of Ladies First, a select auditioned ensemble, the Glee Club's versatility is further extended. Students in the graduate choral conducting program frequently have opportunities to conduct the Women's Glee Club and also serve as accompanists and rehearsel assistants.
